Editorial policy
Useful memory cues begin with accurate language.
This policy describes how educational content is selected, written, checked, and corrected. Last updated August 23, 2026.
Definitions and usage
Each published card begins with a standard English meaning, part of speech, and pronunciation. Definitions are rewritten in concise learner-friendly language. Examples are original and are checked to ensure the word’s grammar, sense, and tone fit the sentence.
Where a word has several meanings, a card may focus on one high-value sense. The page should make that scope clear rather than implying that one sentence covers every possible use.
Mnemonic standards
A sound cue is a memory aid, not an etymology or pronunciation rule. It should resemble enough of the spoken word to trigger recall, while the accompanying action should point to the actual definition. We avoid presenting invented sound connections as linguistic history.
Scenes should be distinctive without depending on hateful, sexual, dangerous, or needlessly distressing material. A mnemonic that is catchy but teaches the wrong meaning is revised or removed.
Use of AI-assisted tools
MnemoWords may use software tools to help brainstorm, draft, or illustrate learning materials. A person remains responsible for deciding what is published, checking the vocabulary claim, and revising confusing output. AI-assisted material is not treated as a source of authority.
Collection selection and release size
The source library is larger than the public website. Cards are released in focused collections only after their definitions, examples, usage notes, contrasts, image descriptions, internal links, and quiz answers are complete. We do not publish a large batch merely to create search pages or advertising inventory.
Collections mix related concepts that benefit from comparison. A page must still stand on its own and explain a distinct word; a shared template is not a reason to repeat generic text across many entries.
Illustrations and accessibility
Illustrations are selected because the pictured action reinforces the mnemonic connection. Images are optimized for the web and receive descriptive alternative text. Before publication, image rights and commercial-use terms must permit use on MnemoWords.
Corrections
Readers can report an inaccurate definition, unnatural example, unclear mnemonic, accessibility issue, or image concern through the contact page. Substantive corrections are reviewed before publication and the page’s updated date may change.
